As a nongovernmental organization (NGO) affiliated with the United Nations, Department of Public Information, RiverTides focuses particularly on issues of education, climate change, community, and sustainability.
Through its Public Conversations program in the Mid-Hudson Valley, it works to inform local communities about international issues and the work of the United Nations.
RiverTides also engages U.S. and international college students from regional universities in UN and NGO activities. Students join RiverTides’ NGO delegates in attending conferences and briefings, and participate in lunch discussions on the work of the UN and international issues. Students participating have come from a variety of countries including Russia, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, India, Australia, China, and Jordan.
