As a nongovernmental organization (NGO) affiliated with the United Nations, Department of Public Information, RiverTides focuses particularly on issues of education, climate change, community, and sustainability.
Through its Conversations programs in the Mid-Hudson Valley, it works to inform local communities about international issues and the work of the United Nations.
RiverTides’ also engages U.S. and international college students from regional universities in UN and NGO activities. Students join RiverTides delegates attending conferences and Department of Information briefings, and participate in lunch discussions on the work of the UN and international issues. Students participating have come from a variety of countries including Russia, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, India, and Jordan.
